Few AAU teams are more intriguing than the 2015 Team Wall squad. If you didn’t already glean that from this excellent series authored by colleague Jason Jordan, go back and take a closer look.
Yet, of all the immense talent and intriguing high school prospects looking to make a name for themselves, a young athlete who has already set down his mark in a different sport may be the teen who stands to gain the most — and leave the largest legacy — on the summer campaign.
Kyran Bowman, a 6-foot-3 guard from Havelock High in North Carolina, has emerged as a bona fide takeover man for Team Wall in the team’s early weeks. He has torn up the adidas Uprising circuit and there is little to dispel the nation that Bowman’s dominance will continue as the season moves along. There’s only one catch: Bowman is already committed to spending his college years playing football at North Carolina.
Could a resurgent summer from Bowman open his mind to playing basketball somewhere else, or even at North Carolina after the conclusion of football season, where he’s slated to play as a wide receiver? Perhaps. If it doesn’t, we should all enjoy seeing him in the court now. It’ll be a shame when his athleticism is no longer being showcased on dunks and blow-bys in the open court.
